How to Calculate Reliever Manpower for Weekly Off?
Reliever manpower is additional staff used when regular employees are on:
- Weekly off
- Paid leave
- Absence
- Holiday
- Replacement
This is especially important in security, housekeeping and 24×7 manpower contracts.
Simple Weekly-Off Formula
If one employee gets one weekly off after six working days:
Required Posts ÷ 6 ≈ Basic Reliever Requirement
Example
Required Daily Posts: 30
Reliever Estimate:
30 ÷ 6 = 5 relievers
So approximately:
30 Regular Posts + 5 Relievers
35 Employees
may be needed to maintain continuous deployment.
Why Is Reliever Cost Important?
If relievers are ignored while quoting a tender, the contractor may later have to pay additional employees from the service charge or profit.
Reliever cost can affect:
- Salary
- PF
- ESIC
- Bonus
- Gratuity
- Uniform
- Payroll cost
- Contract profitability
Important
The formula above is only a planning estimate.
Actual manpower can change depending on:
- Shift pattern
- Working hours
- Weekly-rest rules
- Paid leave
- Holidays
- Absenteeism
- Tender conditions
- Applicable labour law
For 24×7 contracts, calculate each shift separately.
Conclusion
Do not calculate manpower cost using only the number of posts mentioned in the tender.
Always check:
Required Posts + Weekly-Off Relievers + Leave / Absence Reserve
